The Living Language Institute Early Learning Program is for those who want a qualification in early years practice. The program provides training that meets the Ministry requirements for Early Childhood Education. Unlike many programs, our program is a practically based program. Students are engaged in observing and working with children from very early in the program. Based on an apprentice model, the program provides opportunities for students to learn theory and information on early learning in a context that enables them to both see this knowledge in action and to themselves practice observing and implementing what they are learning.
The belief of all engaged in mentoring those enrolled in the LLIF Early Learning Program is that children ‘learn the teacher’ more than what is being taught. With this in mind, we are interested in attracting those people who:
- work collaboratively with others in a respectful manner,
- are playful and imaginative in playing with children
- act with patient kindness in their dealing with others---their peers, the mentoring staff, and especially with the children,
- act with integrity, that is they consistently align words and actions
- take full responsibility for their actions and see assigned tasks through to completion
- show willingness to help others
- demonstrate an eager openness to learn along with a healthy sense of humor.
